Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know before you pull up a seat at the belt.

Take any open seat along the conveyor belt. Chef-made plates of sushi roll past continuously — simply lift off whatever you want. For specific or extra-fresh items, order from the tablet at your seat. At checkout, our staff count your stacked plates by color to total your bill. No menu or reservation needed — it is fast, interactive and fun.

Plates are priced by color, ranging from about $2.50 to $6.50 each. Because you pay per plate, you control your total spend completely — grab a few plates for a light lunch or settle in for a full feast. Ramen, tempura, rice bowls and bubble tea are priced separately on the menu.

Yes. We prepare sushi in small batches and pace plates to the belt so nothing circulates for long. Our staff rotate and remove plates once they pass their freshness window. For the very freshest bite, pick vibrant-looking plates or order à la carte from the seat-side tablet — it arrives within minutes, made just for you.

No. Makoto is built for walk-in dining. Just come in, take an open seat at the belt and start enjoying. Larger groups during busy Friday and Saturday hours may wait briefly for adjacent seats, but there is no formal reservation system — show up hungry.

Absolutely. The moving belt makes dining interactive and exciting for children, and the wide variety means picky eaters and adventurous foodies are all happy. It is one of the most family-friendly ways to enjoy sushi in Staten Island — and a great place to introduce kids to Japanese food.

The golden rule: once you take a plate off the belt, it is yours — never put it back. Only touch plates you intend to take, keep the shared belt clean, and stack your finished plates neatly at your seat. Use the tablet for custom orders rather than reaching across the belt. Beyond that, relax — revolving sushi is meant to be casual and social.

Yes. Look for cucumber rolls, avocado rolls, the Vegetable Garden Roll, vegetable tempura, edamame, seaweed salad, agedashi tofu and vegetable ramen. Many plates on the belt are plant-based, and you can always order vegetarian items fresh from the tablet.

Please tell our staff about any allergies before you order. We will do our best to guide you, but the conveyor belt is a shared environment and we cannot guarantee against cross-contact. For the safest choice, order specific items fresh from the tablet and clearly note your allergy.

Yes — Makoto has a full bubble-tea bar with 30+ flavors including taro, matcha, brown sugar boba, classic milk tea, Thai tea and fresh fruit teas, all hand-shaken to order with chewy tapioca pearls. Add popping boba, jelly or pudding to make it your own.

Yes. While the belt experience is best enjoyed in-house, you can call ahead at (718) 682-1022 to order sushi, rolls, ramen and bubble tea to go. Many menu items travel well for a quick lunch or dinner at home.
